1000 Books Before Kindergarten

We invite you to participate in this free program which encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before they start kindergarten.

 Program Overview

The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless.  Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant and/ or toddler etc.  The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten.  Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it.  If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year.  That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 in three years.  If you consider that most children start kindergarten at age 5, you have more time than you think.

How to Participate

  • Register your child for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten on RCL's Beanstack or stop by the children's desk to register.
  • Read with your child and record your books on the Beanstack app or print off a paper tracker below. Paper trackers are also available at the Children's Desk, to help keep track of the titles of the books that you read.
  • Every 100 books, your child earns a prize from the library.
  • Finish the program and your child receives a backpack with school supplies.
