Born in Rhinebeck, NY, Heywood graduated from Rudyard H.S. in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He earned his BA in Journalism from Michigan State University, and completed graduate coursework in English Literature from Western Michigan University. He is a resident of Portage, MI and spends 3 seasons a year in the upper peninsula. A USAF Vietnam veteran, Heywood retired from the Upjohn company as Vice President of Worldwide Public Relations. Heywood has done research in every county of Michigan’s upper peninsula as well as 20 counties in the lower. His Woods Cop Mysteries are based on the lives of upper peninsula conservation officers.
