About the Instillation

Richland Garden Party

"Why flowers? I have been drawing and painting for years and exhibiting them through the area. Most of them are abstract or expressionistic. When we moved to Richland several years ago, the environment around us became the dominant force in out lives. I did not stop drawing or painting, I just added photography. Close up photographs became my way of seeing flowers, plants, insects and the animals around me more clearly. My observation skills improved and my curiously became more heightened. By photographing up close to the flowers, the images became more abstract and the colors richer. This allowed me to grow with our garden. The more plants we added, the more another world opened up. Flowers were my connection to my abstract training. Flowers taught me to see better and to feel a sense of belonging to nature. All of these photographs are from our yard and several from the Richland area. We are fortunate to live in this beautiful place and it's always a Garden Party here."          - Michael Dunn
